EXPERIENCE

As per February 2014, Dr. Siddig has completed 14 years of working experience in the academia, research and administrative work.  The following is a summary of the main positions he served in and tasks he performed during of the past years:

March 2012 – Present:

Associate Professor, Department of Agricultural Economics, Khartoum University, Sudan:

My task as an Associate Professor of Agricultural Economics at the University of Khartoum is a combination of teaching, doing research and supervising undergraduates and MSc. Students, besides providing various consultancy services based on the availability of time.

During 2014, I taught the following courses to the students of UofK: Microeconomics, Research Methods and Statistical Applications and Mathematical Economics.

December 2012 – Present:

Project Scientific Coordinator, University of Hohenheim, Germany:

Scientific coordinator of the research conducted within the University of Hohenheim under the DFG funded project on the development of the agricultural sector in the West Bank. This involves (1) the development of a GAMS based regionalized CGE model for the West Bank; (2) development of the respective database (regional social accounting matrices); and (3) use of the CGE model for international and national trade policy analysis, especially to analyze the effects of current barriers to labor and product mobility within the West Bank as well as internationally.

January 2012 – December 2012:

Research Fellow: Agricultural & Food Policy, University of Hohenheim, Germany:

Building Economic databases, developing and applying relevant models including -but not limited to- CGE models and relevant software including -but not limited to- GAMS and Gempack to model economic, trade, and labor policies, climate changes scenarios, and water related scenarios in the context of a project focusing in the agricultural sector in Palestine and its connection to the Israeli agriculture.

July 2011 – Present:

July 2010 – January 2012:

Postdoctoral Researcher, Agricultural and Food Policy, University of Hohenheim, Germany:

Doing research under the project: Economic analysis of labor movement and trade restrictions on agricultural markets and trade in the West Bank, Palestine. The work includes but not limited to (1) developing Input/output Tables (IOT) and Social Accounting Matrices (SAM) for Palestine, (2) incorporating the databases into modelling frameworks including but not limited to Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) Models and (3) disseminating the research outcome through international conferences’ presentations and international journals’ publications.

May 2010 – March 2012:

Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural Economics, Khartoum University, Sudan:

Tasks:  (1) Doing research in the fields of Agricultural Economics, International Trade, and Economic Development, as well as other related fields of research, (2) Teaching courses in Agricultural Economics, International Trade, and Economic Development, as well as other related courses, (3) Providing consultancy services to the public sector, private sector, and NGOs, and (4) Supervising M.Sc. and B.Sc. students.

September 2009 – April 2010:

Consultant, United Nation Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD):

Served at the Division on Globalization and Development Strategies of UNCTAD, Palais des Nations, 1211 Geneva 10, Switzerland.

Tasks: (1) Prepared detailed national accounts, trade, labor force, and the demographic databases of the Palestinian economy, covering the period between 1972 and 2007; (2) Updated and re-estimated UNCTAD’s Simulation Framework for Palestine; (3) Forecasted the impact of various strategic and development policies in the areas of international trade, macroeconomic policy, and labor through the period between 2008 and 2020; and (4) Wrote a research paper on: The Challenges of Policy-making in Palestine under the Constrained Policy Tools.

April 2005 – May 2010:

Lecturer, Department of Agricultural Economics, Khartoum University, Sudan:

Tasks: (1) Teaching courses on: Introduction to Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Marketing Principles, International Trade and E. Commerce, Introduction to Statistics, and Principles of Econometrics; (2) Conducting research including the M.Sc. thesis; (3) Supervising the Department’s Computer Laboratory and Network; (4) Supervising Scientific Excursions; and (5) Assisting final year’s students on their graduation projects.

February 2000 – April 2005:

Teaching Assistant, Department of Agricultural Economics, Khartoum University, Sudan:

Tasks: (1) Participating to research activities in the department; (2) Teaching courses on: Introduction to Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Marketing Principles, International Trade and E. Commerce, Introduction to Statistics, and Principles of Econometrics (after the accomplishment of the M.Sc. degree in April 2002); (3) Supervising the Department’s Computer Laboratory and Network, as well as Scientific Excursions; and (4) Advising final year’s students on their graduation projects.

November 2000 – April 2005:

Tasks: (1) Developing and supervising computer programs to automate manual systems in the university; (2) Teaching courses on: C++ programming, Introduction to computer, Pascal programming, Object Oriented Programming, Database principles, Microsoft office, Microsoft windows, Operating systems (science and application), Oracle programming, Access programming, Computer networks, Internet, Front Page Design, Numerical computation, System analysis and design, Computer simulation and modeling, Computer graphics, and Neural networks; (3) Supervising final year students’ graduation projects; and (4) Serving as a member of the Board of Research and Examination Committees.
