Rich and refreshing, the days at the LSE saw an active engagement by M Haroon in journalism and a wider public, political and intellectual, sphere. In journalism he contributed articles to the London based Arabic and English language press including Al Hayat {Arabic daily},Al Quds {Arabic daily}, Al Aalam {Arabic weekly}, The Guardian {English daily}, Africa Events {English monthly} & Impact International {English monthly}.
While still conducting the PhD research M Haroon published from London the monthly newsletter Sudan Focus, and co-published the weekly Arabic newspaper Ash-Shahid ad Dawli.
Back home (1998 – 00), he published, with others, and chaired the board of directors of the Khartoum based daily Arabic-language As Sahafi Ad Dawli (1999-2003). The latter was merged with two other Sudanese newspapers, Al Hurriya and As Sahafa, creating Multi-Media Group (MMG), the publisher of the daily Arabic, As Sahafa (2003 – 00). A member of the board of directors of MMG, M Haroon, was publishing a daily column with the title: “Open Mindedly”, a commentary on bothcurrent policy and political national and international issues
