| .1 | Main Achievemnets as Dean Faculty of Agriculture, University of Khartoum (1990-1994) |
| (a) I initiated a participation mechanism that involved every academic staff member, through departmental boards and general staff meetings to review and update the undergraduate academic programs with a view of introducing a Modified Course Unit System. The process culminated in a New Academic Reform Plan, which was passed institutionally through Departmental Boards, the Faculty Board and to the University Senate. In This new plan, the Crop Protection specialization was developed into two separate pecializations namely: Entomology and Pathology. Furthermore, a Rural Sociology and Extension specialization was developed. | |
| (b) Arabicization of teaching in the Faculty was adopted in the Facculty. A project for the development of a Library was initiated by buying Arabic textbooks and sending delegations to selected Arab Universities for support. A section of Arabic agricultture books was developed in Shambat Library, which was inagurated by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research (Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Omer). | |
| (c) Establishment of the University of Khartoum Journal of Agricultural Sciences. On Agreement with Khartoum Post office Master, the Journal occuppied the Faculty Post Office and a new Office was built near the new Library for the Post office. | |
| (d) Establishment of a Faculty Computer Unit in the old Staff Common Room, and a new Cafteria was built for the Staff. | |
| (e) The Department of Forestry, which was part of the Faculty of Agriculture was developed into a separate Faculty. | |
| (f) I initiated the building of a Brefabricated teeching Hall (Prof. Mohamed Abdalla Noor Hall), which was alloted to the Faculty of Agriculture, the building was completed during the Deanship of Prof. Gaffar Mohamed Al-Hassan. | |
| (g) A committee Chaired by the late Prof. Khattab was formed by the Faculty Board to name the teaching Halls. | |
| (h) I initiated the process of establishing the Dessertification and Desert Cultivation Studies Center by writing and submitting the proposal to the Vice Chancellor of the University. I presented the proposal to the Academic Affairs Advisory Committee and then to the Senate. After several submittions, amendments and presentations, it was passed and the Centre was established on 1996. I was appointed as its first Director. | |
| 5.2 | Vice-Chancellor, Azhari University (February,1997-June,1998). |
| (a) Recruitment of Principal, and prominent Deans for the five facultie from the University of Khartoum.. Established a new post for the Dean of Students Affairs and recruited one from the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Khartoum | |
| (b) Establishment , for the first time in its history, of the following committes: Appointment, Promotion, Student Affairs, and Advisory for Academic Affairs. | |
| (c) The Senate was strengthened by co-opting relevant prominent professors for each meeting to enrich the discussions. | |
| (d) Formulation of regulations and Statutes (eight) which were passed by the University Council. | |
| (e) Development of plans for Academic Reform for the Faculties of Agriculture, Engineering, Education, Political Science and Strategic Studies, and Medicine. Senate passed four of these plans, the fifth (Medicine) was not presented to Senate. | |
| (f) The Historical Graduates Club in Omdurman was rehabilitated and ocuppied by the Adminstartion. | |
| (g) The Faculty of Education was housed in a rehabilitated “Ahilia” Secondary school, which was adjoined to the University through an Agreement signed by the Khartoum State Minister of Education and the Vice-Chancellor. | |
| (h) Postgraduate training was initiated by one programme (Faculty of Economics) and a Dean was appointed. | |
| 5.3 | Director of the Desertification and Desert Cultivation Studies Institute (DADCSI) and UNESCO Chair of desertification Studies (UCDS)(16 Feb 2003-Oct. 2007). |
| (a) DADCSI and UCDS were housed in a small two-floor building, which was previously occupied successively by the library of the Faculty of Agriculture and Department of Forestry. It was renovated to satisfy the needs of the institute and Chair. | |
| (b) Two modern and well furnished lecture rooms equipped with multi-media were estblished. A modern, well furnished meeting room equipped with microphone and multimedia facilities was etablished and used for holding the meetings of the Co-ordination Committee, Academic Committee of DADCSI and other ad-hoc committees. | |
| (c) In general, the furniture all offices, lecture rooms, labs etc. was renewed and the Institute and Chair were supplied with a fax, a photocopying machine, lab top, telephone with access to the World Wide Web. Each Co-ordinator’s office was supplied with an air conditioner, a computer, and access to a printer, scanner and internet. | |
| (d) The Institue was strengthened with a small specialized library and a small Soil-Plant and Water Analysis Laboratory,. a Computer Unit and a GIS and Remote Sensing Laboratory. | |
| (e) The UCDS established a well equiped office for the preparation of a specialized Journal named Sudan Journal of Desertification Research. | |
| (f) The DADCSI implemented a succeessful human resource development in the area of desertification. It graduated till during my directorship 45 M.Sc. students and some Ph.D. students in this area. | |
| (g) The Chair formulated and financed a project for writing and publishing the textbooks for almost all courses of the M.Sc. program (courses and complementary research). | |
| (h) The UNESCO Chair of Desertification in collaboration with the DADCSI Institute, and the Sudanese Association for Combating Desertification (SACD) organized a number of national and regional conferences and workshops whose proceedings were published by the Chair (Refer to Publication’s section). | |
| (i) The main output of the National Forum of Scientific Research on Desertification in the Sudan was a national strategy of research on desertification. A National Action Plan for Scientific Research in Sudan was formulated by a National committee formed by the Chair. | |
| (j) States workshops for discussing the National Action Plan for Scientific Research in Sudan were organized. | |
| (k) The Chair was instrumental in reviving the National Action Program for Combating Desertification and in collaboration with the National Unit for the Coordination of Combating Desetification and Mitigation of Drought Effects Programs and the Committee of Agricultural and Animal Affairs of the National Council, the NAP was passed by the National Council. The Chair also made the first draft of the Act of Combating Desertification, which was also passed by the National Council.
