3.1 EXTRA CURRICULA ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

(a) Professional Societies

· Sudanese Society of Soil Science: I was instrumental in its establishment,

wrote the draft of its constitution, and was chairman of the technical

committee for its first conference.

· Sudanese Society of Agriculture

· The American Society of Agronomy (1968-1993)

· The International Society of Soil Science (1968-1993)

· The Sudanese Society of Soil Science. I was  instrumental in its       establishment.  I wrote the draft of its first constitution. when it was first

· The Sudanese Association of Combating Desertification (President)      (2001- todate). I was  instrumental in its establishment. I wrote the draft      of its constitution.

(b) Participation in Conferences, Symposia, Seminars and Workshops

I participated in numerous local, regional and international conferences etc. I was a member of several official delegations to regional and international  cnferences, especially those pertaining to desertification.

(c) Review of papers: I reviewed many papers for local and regional journals.

(d) Acted as Internal and External Examiner:

I acted as internal examiner for numerous postgraduate students in the University of Khartoum, and external examiner for both undergraduate and graduate students at the local and regional level (Universities of Kenya, Zambia, and the Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur)

(e) Presentation of Public Lectures. I presented several public lectures in the general theme of combating desertfication  (refer to list).

(f) Active participation in the Awareness program of the UNESCO Chair and The Sudanese Association for Combating Desertification. Contribution of articles interviews etc. in Newspapers. I wrote several articles pertaining to desertification in Newspapers (Refer to list)
