Contribution to the profession

1.     Served in the inspection of meat for local consumption and for export to Egypt, Libya, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia (1970).

2.     Led the mobile teams that conducted the epidemiological surveys to determine the prevalence of bovine trypanosomiasis and the distribution of tsetse flies (Glossina spp.) in southern Darfur (1972), Kordofan (1973, Blue Nile and Kassala (1984).

3.     Conducted field and laboratory investigations to assess resistance of Trypanosoma spp. to drugs in cattle in southern Darfur District (1980).

4.     Acted as FAO/Sudan tsetse and trypanosomiasis liaison officer (1982-1984).

5.     Led Sudan Delegation to the 4th African Sleeping Sickness and Animal Trypanosomiasis Conference held in Cong-Brazzaville and sponsored by WHO, FAO, OAU. There I was elected speaker of East Africa Group comprised of Sudan, Ethiopian, Somalia and Uganda (1983).

6.     Founded with others the Society of Sudanese Parasitologists in 1984.

7.     Established collaborative research with Merck Sharp and Dohme (MSD) to evaluate the efficacy of Ivermectin in controlling endo-parasites. Based on the outcome of the trials, the drug was purchased by the Dutch Government (about 3 million Gelders) and donated to Sudan. It was the first time Ivomec was officially introduced to Sudan (1987).

8.     Member of the Technical Committee of the Scientific Conference for the formulation of recommendations policies, plans and priorities in scientific research. National Council for Research, Agricultural Science Council (1989).

9.     Interviewed by Sudan Radio and Television on tropics related to animal diseases.
