For more than 10 years I’m an active member of the Sudanese environment Conservation Society (SECS).  Since 2002 I became executive committee member of SECS.

Coordinator a programme called CLACC (www.clacc.net) since January 2005-present, which is host by SECS.  The programme is hosted by the Sudanese Environment Conservation Society (SECS), CLACC stands for Capacity strengthening in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) for Adaptation to Climate Change.  The programme was an initiative of the International Institute of Environment and Development (IIED, London), which aims to build the capacity of 12 Least Developed Countries (LDCs), on issues relating to adaptation to climate change.  The LDCs are the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, due to their geographical location in some of the most vulnerable areas and their low capacity to cope with drought, floods, cyclones etc.  For this programme Sudan is positioned in East Africa group together with Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya.  The Objectives of CLACC are:

  • Strengthening the capacity of civil society in LDCs to adapt to climate change and fostering adaptive capacity among the most vulnerable groups.
  • Establishing an information and knowledge system to help countries to deal with the adverse impacts of climate change.

·      Integrating adaptation to climate change into the work of key non-government institutions, and mainstreaming the NAPA process with these institutions. The first phase of CLACC was completed during which a study was done on health impacts and its association with climatic hazards (specifically impact of climate change on malaria).  The study focused on the most vulnerable groups (both geographically & socio-economically), and the ways through which their capacities to deal with climate change impacts may be strengthened.
