Other Research Activities

  1. First to report an underdiagnosed cardiomyopathy (noncompaction of the ventricular myocardium) in Saudi Arabia and Sudan. Reported the largest series of patients with this disease in Arab and African patients (55 patients)
  2. Described a new echocardiographic approach to diagnose atrioventricular septal defect not previously validated in children. This was combined with the first report of the normal reference values of these new measurements in children.
  3. First report about the high frequency of Ebstein malformation in Sudan.
  4. First report of the detailed echocardiographic diagnoses of congenital heart disease in Sudan which included 28 diagnoses of major congenital defects and their subdivisions.
  5. First to report the experience with cardiac catheterization for congenital heart disease in Sudan.
  6. Described a new mechanism for mitral regurgitation due to noncompaction cardiomyopathy.
  7. First report about echocardiographic prevalence of rheumatic heart disease in Sudan
