I- Achievements from the M. Sc. Research:

Previous studies showed that Morel’s disease is caused by Staphylococcus aureus as it was isolated from the abscesses which usually spread in different locations of the body of the sheep. The disease occurs only to the sheep during undergoing fattening process. Thus this research was conducted to study the effect of nutrition or ration taken, as well looking for the presence of S. aureus in other location(s) in the body.

The pathological lesions on the internal organs had been studied. Fifty sheep that developed the Multiple Abscess Syndrome (MAS) were slaughter after locating the sites of the abscesses. Fresh liquor samples from the rumens were taken for isolation of S. aureus. Rumen, liver and other digestive organs were studied for pathological lesions.

Amazingly, S. aureus was identified from all the tested samples, along with abrasion and ulceration in rumen compared to the control. Abscesses and necrosis of the liver were found.

It could be concluded that, the excessive carbohydrates in the ration may cause the abrasion and the ulcers in the digestive system. Therefore, S. aureus that already present in the rumens could move through the blood vessels to different locations including the superficial places of the abscess and the internal organs as the liver.
