Experience

Experience in Africa Region

My experience in the African region gathered from various opportunities in connection with activities at regional and international levels related to studies and special workshops and meeting organized by the IPCC and regional organization, the last one has been in the regional training workshop organized by GWPEA in Addis Abab 15 – 19/06/ 2015. Also I participated in IPCC regional workshops in West, Central and East Africa. I visited twelve African countries in 25 visits.

I visited Zimbabwe for feasibility study on integrated management of natural resources and visited the University of Ghana twice and that increased my experience in Africa forestry and integrated natural resources management. I visited the University of Goma in DRC and provided a course for the MSc students on the “Interface between Human beings and their Environment” and supervised the graduation seminar for the undergraduate students Dec. 2013. I am presently supervising a PhD student in the University of South Africa (see references below).

I conducted a study for the IGAD on Community Based Natural Resource Management as a regional study (2001). I was a member of the scientific committee for Sudan and Sahel Observatory SOS (2004 – 2006) centred in Tunisia (see references below).

I conducted a consultancy study for Global Water Partnership East Africa (GWPEA) as a country consultant on increasing drought resilience in the Sudan as part of a study on the subject for the HOA in September – October 2014 and based on land development and sustainable management of natural resources.

Outside Africa, I have wide experience in Yemen on forestry and EIA and in relation to desertification control and degraded land rehabilitation.

C. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Staff member at the Faculty of Forestry, University of Khartoum since 1980 and Head Department of Forest Management and chair person of the department Board (June1994 – June 2000) and Dean Faculty of Forestry and chairman of Faculty Board (June 2000 – June 2002). I am a member of many committees on development affairs related to Environment and integrated natural resources managemet.

I have been a consultant on many studies and short term activities at many of the national, regional and international levels (for international organizations and projects including UN, IPCC, FAO, GEF, IFAD, CARE, GTZ, FNC, Ford Foundation, Arab Organization for Agricultural Development, Lahmayer International and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland and GWPEA – (see specific references below).
