C)   RESEARCH REPORTS
1)                 Study and Evaluation of the Foundation Problems at Adar Field Processing Facilities, Melut Basin Oil Development; Sept 2008- Sept 2009 (Team Member, BRRI) Elarabi H., Elsharief A. M., Musa Y T., Daood O.The main features of the field processing facility FPF are huge cabling and pipe networks, tanks and pumps. The site is located in potentially expansive soil area. Distresses were observed in the networks endangering the function of the FPF. Extensive investigation was made and remedial measures for rehabilitation of the distresses were suggested and detailed.
2)                 Low Cost, Water Resistant and Healthy Housing in Wau Nour and Kadogli Neighborhoods in Kassala Town (June 2006); for Practical Action Organization (Team Member representing Building Material Network)This was a network of consultants in which I represented BRRI as a geotechnical expert. Recommendations were given for the suitable material for brickwork fabrication and low cost foundation system for the buildings.
3)                 Evaluation of Elobeid–Bara Road; (2006), for EFAD, Northern Kordofan OfficeThis project was privately executed for IFAD (International Fund For Agricultural Development). Elobeid Bara road is an asphaltic concrete road (70 Km long) that was funded by IFAD. After few years of service I was requested to provide technical evaluation for the general condition of the road and report on any distresses of failures that should be maintained by the Contractor.
4)                 Comparative Evaluation Study of the Subsurface Soil Conditions and Foundation Design and Treatment at Bashair 1 and Bashair 2 Sites (2006); prepared for Peremba-Intec-Sudan Pile Consortium by A. M. Elsharief and Zein A. K. MThe foundation design in the tender documents for the installations in Bashair 2 port were basically based on the geotechnical investigations of the neighboring port “Bashair 1”. However, the detailed geotechnical investigation carried out by the Contractor revealed very poor soil in Bashair 2 site which required ground improvement. This study was intended to compare the geotechnical conditions of the two sites and state the basis on which the ground improvement was selected.
5)                 The Stability of the White Nile Flood Protection Embankment in Elmogran Area, West Khartoum;Prepared for Elsunut Development Company, BRRI geotechnical Reports, October 2005 (0-0-1-19); Team Member; An intensive study was performed at BRRI on request Elsunut Development Company to study the stability and overall condition of an existing flood protection embankment in Khartoum. The embankment has to protect huge investment in Almogran area. Intensive field and laboratory testing programs were carried out and the stability was assessed.
6)                 Additional Geotechnical Investigation on Core Material of Merowe Dam; (2004), for Merowe Dam Project Implementation Unit; In Collaboration with Division of Embankment dams and Landfill Technology, University of Kalsruhe (TH), Vol. 1 to Vol. 7This was an intensive investigation and study that was performed during 2003-2004 at BRRI and University of Kalsruhe in Germany on request from Dams Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Irrigation, Sudan Government. The objective was to study the dispersive characteristics of the intended core material in the Earth Core Rock Fill dam ECRD of Merowe Dam. Intensive testing was carried out on the core material to study its dispersive characteristics and suggest treatment methods including advanced mineralogical and chemical tests. Lime and gypsum were used for treatment of the material. The outcome of this investigation was the basis for the design and improvement of the core material for the ECRD.
7)                 Laboratory Evaluation of Prefabricated Highway Edge Drains; Joint Transportation Research Program, # 356, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, USA, 1992:This is a funded research project. The funding agency was Indiana Department of Transportation through the JHRP at Purdue University. The research period was two years and six months. The objective was to improve the design of filters for prefabricated highway edge drains. The research was successfully implemented.
