Contribution to the Faculty of Pharmacy, U of K, during my Deanship

With the companionship of several helpful colleagues I took an active role in 1992, during
my deanship, to build the existing extension of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of
Khartoum, in order to coup with the considerable increase in the numbers of new students.
• I took the initiative as a dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy to invite the WHO consultant, Dr
Paul S. Collier, in January/February 1994 to review our pharmacy curriculum and provide
the necessary advice to integrate clinical pharmacy into a revised version of the curriculum
in order to keep up with the international trends in pharmacy education.

• Dr Collier visit was culminated by conducting a two-day workshop (26-27 of January 1994)
at the Meridian Hotel addressing the curriculum development with special reference to
clinical pharmacy.
• The workshop was attended by about 40 participants from a variety of academic
backgrounds, at which the consultant made a presentation outlining the importance of
clinical pharmacy both at the community and hospital settings. An elaborate report entitled:
“Development of pharmacy curriculum in Sudan” was received in 13th of June 1994 through
the WHO office of the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
• During my headship of the Department of Pharmacognosy, I invited Prof, David Philipson,
head of the Department of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of London to
revise of the syllabus of Pharmacognosy.
