Organizational Achievements

  1. As head of the Geography Department , 1975-77 , And In addition to the routine administration , I achieved the following :

(a) With the help of my colleagues , I introduced the Course Unit System , replacing the old system in the Department ;

(b) Established links between the geography Department and (I) The Department of Geography , University College of Swansea , (ii) Clark University , USA . (iii) Institute of Physical Geography , Hamburg , and (Iv) Department of Physical Geography , Lund University ;

(c) Collaborated with others to establish the Institute of Environmental Studies , University of Khartoum .

  1. Several times , I represented the Faculty of Arts in : (I) The University of Khartoum Senate . (ii) The Admission Committee in the University of Khartoum . (iii) In the Central Research Committee , University of Khartoum .
  2. Twice Acted As Dean of Faculty of Arts During the Absence of the Dean (1976) .
  3. Organized and Coordinated Several National and International Workshops ; The main ones are :

(a)   Perception of The Physical Environment (UNESCO Mab Project 13) sponsored by Sudan National Mab Committee , February , 1978 ;

(b)  Khartoum Workshop on Arid Lands Management , October 1978 , sponsored by the United Nations University And The Institute of Environmental Studies , University of Khartoum .

(c)  Coordinated and elected Chairman for the Workshop on ” Development Projects and Health in the Sudan ,” Sponsored by the United Nations University and the Institute of Environmental Studies , University of Khartoum , February , 1981 .

(d)  Organized and coordinated The Symposium on ” The Impact of Development Projects on Population Redistribution In Africa ” Sponsored by the Commission on Population Geography , International Geographical Union , 1982 .

(e)  Organized , Coordinated and was elected Chairman for the workshop on ” Monitoring and Combating Desertification in Africa ,” Sponsored by ETMA Programme , ECA , UNSO , UNEP and the Institute of Environmental Studies , University of Khartoum , October 1982 .

(f)   Organized and Coordinated the workshop on ” Combating Desertification in the Sudan , ” Sponsored by the Institute of Environmental Studies , ETMA and Lund University .
