anophelesCeratitis_capitata_-_adult  Drosophila

I am interested in understanding the genetic basis of vector-pathogen interaction and to study genes that affect vector competence to transmit diseases such as malaria and dengue fever, i am particularly interested in understanding the immunity molecules of Anopheles mosquitoes that lead to their refractoriness to malaria transmission,

i am also interested in genetic technologies to enhance the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) ; the technique which proved successful in many insect pests including the medfly Ceratitis capitata

My interst also spans the genetic basis of insecticide resistance and the role of kdr and Ace1 mutations on the insecticide resistance among Culex mosquitoes and housefly in urban areas.

Current Research Activities

  • Analysis of Culex pipiens population structure in Khartoum area using microsatellite markers
  • Studying the distribution and frequency of Kdr allele in populations of the house fly Musca domestica and the correlation with the level of pyrethroid resistance.
