In 2003 the Greater Nile Oil Operating Company contacted a group of three staff members from the University of Khartoum including Dr. Tigani M.H. Allam, Dr. Dawi Musa Hamad from the Zoology Department and Dr. Kamal Ramadan from the Electric Engineering Department to report and suggest possible solutions for electric trips caused by birds in El Muglad Basin. The group visited Heglig and El Wohda Fields and submitted the following papers:

Greater Nile Oil Operating Company, again in 2005, contacted Dr. Tigani and Dr. Dawi to study and report about possible solutions to birds threatening aircraft and causing airplane strikes at Heglig Airfield. The following report was submitted and bird deterring equipment is being purchased to be installed.
