Working in Darfur was very challenging as the resources were very little and there have been many outbreaks of acute watery diarrhoea, water borne diseases and meningitis. There have been always iodine deficiency disorders, other vitamin and trace element deficiencies and malnutrition. I have travelled all over North Darfur and visited places in South and Wet Darfur States. The work in Darfur prompted me to apply for the master degree in international health where I wrote a thesis on disaster preparedness in the Sudan. It is a qualitative study depending on analysis of interviews, observations and data obtained from the local authorities.
