August 1997 – August 1998: SHO, Registrar in Neurology Research and Publication

I was attached to Pr9fessor Raymond C Tallies Research Unit Building of Neurosciences, University of Manchester. The research programme involved many projects but in particular, The Stroke Association Therapy Research Unit project (stroke being the commonest cause of severe neurodisability). SA TRU is establishing a portfolio of novel techniques for quantifying impairment and building on those developed by other. For example, development of new methods of evaluating neurorehabilitation techniques;

E.g.: (i) gait analysis, combining novel biomechanical and more conventional kinetic techniques, of which I am very interested

(ii) Quantification of dysarthria and measurement of dynamic sitting balance

(iii) Quantification of perceptual impairment

I have completed a paper about our experiences in eradication of MRSA at PEG sites, catheters and throats in patients with neurological disabilities in Hope Hospital, University of Manchester
