As a medical school teaching staff, my job involves regular teaching of years 3,4, 5, and 6. Medical students it involves lectures in Clinical Neurology, neurosciences, emergency neurological conditions and regular tutorials. In the medical school I’m involved in examination, setting questions, supervising, and setting marking schemes. As I’m a consultant Neurology in teaching hospitals, I’m caught up in running weekly clinics, major ward rounds in both hospitals. As well as that my job involves clinical teaching ward rounds to pre and post graduate students.
Recently, I set my 1st epilepsy clinic in Soba hospital which is run on a monthly basis where patients are managed and educated regarding their epilepsy
Recently I started a first transitional clinic in Saad Abouela Pediatric hospital where a monthly clinic is run seeing adolescents with Neurological problems as a way of introducing them to adulthood and thus adult neurological clinics. By this we can improve our service further by outreaching to Pediatric patients
Recently, I set protocol for management of patients with emergency neurological conditions in Soba hospital. The protocol was accepted and it is now accepted in every medical ward.

Future plans:

v A conjoined clinic with obstetrician to help pregnant women with Neurological problems, especially epilepsy and sinus venous thrombosis

There is a new programme set by Ministry of Foreign affairs. I am the representative of the faculty of medicine in that programme, and I’m in the process of setting a new office for international relations of foreign affairs which can help us commute with the outside world in a quick, better, and professional way

National Contributions:

Dec 2007:- I had the honor of inviting Prof Raymond Tallis [prof of Medicine Gerontologist, University of Manchester and Alice Hanscomb, an epilepsy nurse who runs a consultancy post (Epilepsy week in Sudan)]. There were joint talks, and lectures held in :-

v Khartoum Teaching hospital

v Soba teaching hospital

v AHFAD university( Girls university)

v Academy of Medical Science

v Nov/ Dec 2009: We had a visit by Jeremy Derek, Consultant Neurologist, Greater Manchester. A joint talk was held about abnormal movement in adults in the main lecture room in Soba teaching hospital

Feb 2009: As a way of improving emergency services in Sudan ,The Sudanese Association of Physician held its annual meeting in The Friendship hall, Khartoum regarding that matter and I had the honor of participating in the meeting .The topics were :

v Acute Brain Attack

v Acute stroke unit

2009-2010: Member of the scientific committee for the Sudanese Association of Physicians
Feb 2010: I was the chair person in the Sudanese Association of Physician annual meeting leading the discussion in various neurological conditions presented by neurologists’ part were local and part were guest from abroad. I was also a member in the Scientific Committee in the Sudanese association of Physician year 2009-2010
Feb 2010: I held two talks in the third neurological conference in Sudan

v Epilepsy diagnosis and managements

Our guests in this conference were Dr.Coates, consultant Neurophysiologist New Castle upon Tyne, Alfred Djumanshi World federation of NEUROLOGY .Dr Paterson, consultant neurologist, UK

Feb 2011:The third neurological course,Soba hospital, I was one of the organizers of this course and I was one of the main collaborators. I participated by a talk :

v Management of Epilepsy in Sudan

v Teaching registrars and how to approach, examine, and manage different neurological cases

v We had the honor of having Dr.Paterson, Dr.Nickson, and the great honor of Dr.Saeed Bohlega from Riyadh, KSA

I had the honor to be involved as a Co-Author in the case presentation of the first Sudanese patient of Congenital Myasthenia Gravis whom I followed up for almost a year and proved to have a +ve MUSK Gene
This novel study was done with the help of Sudanese professors and German scholars, and we had the honor of diagnosing the 2nd Family in the world, after the French Family which was diagnosed in 2004

I have completed a paper about our experiences in eradication of MRSA at PEG sites, catheters and throats in patients with neurological disabilities in Hope Hospital, University of Manchester.

In the pipeline to write a case report(lesson of the week) in one of the recognized journals a patient whom I diagnosed with Cerebral Vasculitis and turned out to be Miliary tuberculosis (patient discussed with Dr Salah Omer ,consultant Neurologist St Georges’ hospital, London, and Dr.Osheik.

I’m in the process of publishing a paper with Professor Mustafa Abdullah Salih, pediatric neurology Riyadh regarding a family with severe Peripheral and Autonomic Neuropathy where 3 members of the family are severely effected to the extent of Auto amputation

In the pipeline 2 different families with Cerebellar Ataxia. The first family suffered from cerebella ataxia ocular apraxia .Genetic studies are in the process now, to detect SCA gene ,the other family positive members with cerebral ataxia epilepsy and parkinsonism, diagnosis unknown.
