I worked a Consultant<\/strong> Neurologist at Sunderland Royal Hospital (SRH) and the Regional Neurosciences Centre (RNC) Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. This is a full time substantive appointment with the NHS at SRH and the RNC<\/p>\n

I was in charge for the contribution of the Department of Neurology in teaching \u2013CIDR \u2013 of \u00a0medical students of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne from Jan 2006 to December 2008. This involved giving lectures, case based teaching, clinical rounds, out patients and resource days in neurology including skill laboratory training. I was the Educational supervisor for junior doctors in the department of neurology and a trained career advisor for junior doctors.<\/p>\n

I substantially developed the services for patients with Multiple Sclerosis in Sunderland area.<\/p>\n

I started the Multiple Sclerosis charity in Sunderland Royal Hospital and raised significant funds for it. Funds were used to appoint a new MS specialist nurse and educator as well as equipments for the MS clinic including a bladder scanner.<\/p>\n

The work involved day to day management of a wide range of neurological disorders including emergencies. I do 3 -4 out patients clinics a week including general neurology and speciality clinics. The latter included movement disorders, TIA’s, epilepsy, paediatric neurology, and neuromuscular diseases. I did clinics at the Neurosciences centres at Newcastle upon Tyne and Middlesbrough as well as at district general hospitals including Durham, Carlisle, Whitehaven, Ashington, Bishop Auckland and Hartlepool. I did three months of clinical neurophysiology. I did a clinical audit addressing The Management of Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis and Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (BIH) in Middlesbrough. That was a joint audit between the departments of neurology and neurosurgery.<\/p>\n

I did one in five second on call rota since I joined this training programme. I participated in the regular departmental activities including grand rounds, SpR training days, radiology meetings and journal clubs. I contributed to the teaching activities for under- and postgraduate students.<\/p>\n

I successfully obtained my CCST (Neurology) from the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK on 31st<\/sup> August 2005- certificate incurred on November 2005. Soon after appointed as a consultant neurologist as shown above.<\/p>\n

Clinical Research Associate<\/strong> in Neurology at the Department of Neuroimmunology, Guy\u2019s, King\u2019s and<\/p>\n

St Thomas\u2019 School of Medicine at King\u2019s College, University of London.<\/p>\n

The department\u00a0 was headed by Prof Richard Hughes. I worked under the direct supervision of Dr M K Sharief, Consultant and Senior Lecturer in neurology.<\/p>\n

I undertook clinical and laboratory based research in Neuroimmunology to obtain an MD from the University of London. Unfortunately I couldn\u2019t afford to pay for the prohibitively high fees and was proud of the experience and the amount of scientific training I received from world class scientists.<\/p>\n

I conducted several studies addressing the role of B Lymphocytes in Multiple sclerosis. I gained hands-on experience with ELISA, Western Blotting, Dot-Blotting, Flow Cytometry and cells separation techniques. I presented the results of some of these studies at Departmental, Local, National and International meetings as well as in 6 peer reviewed publications.<\/p>\n

5- From 26 April 99 to \u00a09 April 2000:<\/h3>\n

\u00a0<\/em>Specialist Registrar\/ Lecturer in Neurology<\/strong>, Locum Appointmentfor Training (LAT) at theDepartment of Clinical Neurology, Royal Hallamshire hospital in Sheffield (RHH).<\/p>\n

I worked for Drs GAB Davies-Jones, \u00a0Graham Venables, R A Grunewald, B Sharrack, A Gibson, S Howell and Marious Hadjivassilliou.<\/p>\n

The work involved day-to-day care of inpatients with all range of neurological disorders and supervision of SHO\u2019s and HO\u2019s. I did two clinics a week one of which was in a District General Hospital and a 1 in 4\u00a0 on-call duties. That involved first hand care of patients with a wide range of neurological emergencies. The duty involved supervision of the first on-call and responding to calls for neurological opinion from GP\u2019s, surrounding hospitals as well as other departments in the RHH under the supervision of consultants.<\/p>\n

I prepared the elective admissions list for the subunits that I worked in. I supervised the care of patients in the Programmed Investigation Unit. That included performing LP\u2019s, Tensilon test, Apomorphine test, and Percutaneous Muscle Biopsy. I participated in the radiology meetings, case presentations, and journal clubs.<\/p>\n

I undertook a study on the use of Transcranial Doppler Ultrasonography in Assessment of<\/p>\n

Intracranial Pressure in patients with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension under the supervision of<\/p>\n

Dr R A Grunewald, Consultant neurologist at the Hallamshire hospital in Sheffield.<\/p>\n

The study showed that conventional Lumbar puncture and other invasive techniques remain the reliable means of measuring intracranial pressure.<\/p>\n

6- From \u00a007\/09\/1998 to \u00a025\/04\/ 1999:<\/h3>\n

I Did 4 clinics, 2 endoscopy lists and one echocardiography list \/ week. Ss well as supervise the ICU\/CCU unit and the A & E Department. I also worked as an Internal Auditor and latter received training as a certified auditor- see above. As a senior staff member I actively participated in achieving ISO9001 accreditation for the hospital.<\/p>\n
