In Sudan <strong>M Haroon<\/strong> was a member of the <strong>National Congress Party (NCP)<\/strong>. In 2013 he left the NCP and founded, with others, the <strong>National Movement for Change (NMC)<\/strong>. <strong>M Haroon<\/strong> is an advocate of democratization, openness, transparency, human rights and good governance.<\/p>\n<p>Contributing to national political and policy debate <strong>M Haroon<\/strong> is a founding member of Khartoum University&#8217;s <strong>Forum for National Debate and Policy Making<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As a member of board and a director of the Khartoum-based, non-governmental think tank, <strong>Future Trends Foundation <\/strong>(2006-2010), <strong>M Haroon<\/strong> initiated and contributed to various debates, research projects and campaigns in areas of democratization, political reform and other policy-related initiatives. He coached the pioneering <strong>First Times Voters<\/strong> project where over 2000 young Sudanese university students, males and females, had civic and voter education training. He also organized the first Sudanese <strong>Urban and Election Violence <\/strong>conference (2010), and subsequently chaired a national task force for authoring the first <strong>National Anti-Violence Strategy<\/strong> (2010).<\/p>\n<p>As a civil society activist <strong>M Haroon<\/strong> is also active in the world of civil society organizations. He founded and is he chairperson of the board of trustees of, <strong>Eid El Nil for Local Development<\/strong>, a national NGO working closely with local communities in the Western Sudanese region of Kordofan in areas of education, primary health care, provision of clean drinking water and socio-economic empowerment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>M Haroon has been engaged in the national and international political and public spheres since studentship days.
