{"id":16,"date":"2014-12-04T08:05:48","date_gmt":"2014-12-04T08:05:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/staffpages.uofk.edu\/hala-abuzeid\/?page_id=16"},"modified":"2014-12-04T08:05:48","modified_gmt":"2014-12-04T08:05:48","slug":"clinical-experience","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/staffpages.uofk.edu\/hala-abuzeid\/?page_id=16","title":{"rendered":"Clinical Experience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Higher Specialist Training<\/p>\n<p>Specialist medical rotation approved by the Oxford Deanery, the post is recognised for postgraduate training in General Internal Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Day to day management of general medical inpatients, with responsibility for patients admitted from acute on take, general outpatients, with responsibility for clinics, including follow up of patients with GIM problems.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Attending regular hypertension clinics, once a week, dealing with primary hypertensive patients as well as secondary cases, capacity 900 &#8211; 1000 patients.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Carrying out one chest clinic for follow-up of patients with chest problems, all conditions, including management of COPD and lung cancer. Attending Bronchoscopy list once a week.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Managing regular endoscopy sessions twice a week, assisting in OGD for outpatients, average 8 per week. I have carried out an average of 50 upper GIT endoscopies, mainly diagnostic.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Attending two outpatients\u2019 clinics in a week, following up patients with general medical and gastroenterological problems.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Attending ERCP lists once a week.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Managing inpatients with a vast variety of sub acute and acute medical problems.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Participating in academic activities especially teaching of junior colleagues, paramedic, nursing staff and MRCP II candidates. Annual assessments.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Participating in regular weekly training sessions for GIT Endoscopy techniques, attending, and presenting clinical cases in Grand Rounds, firm meetings, weekly x-ray meetings and pathology meetings.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         ITU experience with exposure to medical, surgical and obstetrical patients of intensive care, with very good experience in intubations, difficult airways management and fibroptic bronchoscopy aided intubation, central line and swan-Ganz catheters insertion, pacing and haemofilteration. Leading trauma calls, and cardiac arrests, and initiating clinical judgement and decision-making processes.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Performing ultrasound examinations for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes for all the patients in ITU<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Intensive Care experience, attaining primary and finishing with Intermediate level of Critical Care in ITU. Participating in a Senior Rota for ITU registrars dealing with different varieties of medical and surgical patients admitted to ITU. Also having a good chance in helping out in the different managerial tasks in rationalising beds and patients allocations under supervision from the various ITU consultants.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Competent in all the procedures undertaken in ITU including management of patients\u2019 airways, while on invasive and non-invasive monitoring.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7   Anaesthetics experience with day-to-day theatre activities and being actively responsible for the care of critically ill and ventilated patients in CCU.   Assessing and performing general, regional anaesthesia\/analgesia (performing all forms of regional blocks) for emergency cases as well as elective cases with grade ASA 1-4, including dentals, urology, maternity, gynaecology, general surgery etc. (8-10 cases\/day)<\/p>\n<p>Senior House Officer<\/p>\n<p>Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics &#038; Gynaecology<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Managing acute surgical emergencies and general medical patients, performing minor operations and assisting in major ones.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Supervising inpatients and doing outpatients clinics.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Involvement in all clinical activities, including teaching sessions and case presentations, attending consultant and registrar ward rounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Acquired skills in diagnostic and therapeutic lower GIT endoscopies and ERCP during training. Regularly attending bronchoscopy lists for training.<\/p>\n<p>HIV &#038; Tropical Diseases<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Inpatient management of all patients with infectious and imported tropical illnesses and HIV.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Outpatient clinics and regular attendance of informal and formal teaching sessions, including preparing and providing presentations.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7         Managing acute medical emergencies and regular attendance and consultant and registrar ward rounds.<\/p>\n<p>Confident and competent in performing minor procedures, including: lumbar punctures, insertion of NG tubes, chest drains, Central Venous lines, pleural biopsies, aspirations, pleurodesis, abdominal pracentesis and performing venesections, urethral and suprapublic catheritisation, bone marrow aspirations and skin biopsies.
