Training & Supervision of Post-graduates Students

Professional Training

 

House Officers:

Basic surgical training for a group of house-officers (5-6) every three months at Khartoum Teaching and Soba University Hospitals. The training includes management of surgical patients, acquiring basic clinical  and operative skills and performing simple minor emergency and elective operations under supervision.

 

Senior House Officers:

Training in clinical and operative management of most of the routine emergency and elective conditions under supervision.

 

Surgical Registrars:

These are postgraduate students for the Doctoral Degree in Clinical Surgery (Sudan). 75 registrars have been trained professionally in surgery during their rotation under my supervision. Most of them are surgical specialists now.

 

The training involves the following activities:

  • Preoperative care of patients
  • Operative techniques and skills
  • Postoperative care of patients
  • Outpatients-Department activities, this involves training in organisation of patients handling, booking for surgery, diagnostic approach, outpatient surgical care and performing minor operations
  • Casualty training: a 24 hours cover of all general surgical casualty cases admitted to Khartoum Teaching Hospital and Ibrahim Malik Hospital. Rota 1 in 3. This involves close supervision
  • Academic teaching and weekly discharge clinic
  • Teaching professional ethics
  • Surgical audit

Training in special procedures:

  • Upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy
  • Tru-cut needle breast biopsy
  • Fine needle Aspiration cytology technique for masses
  • Vascular Doppler ultrasound examination
