a) Took part during academic training in two major field works carried out by the members of the Department of Anthropology, University of Khartoum (Dar Hamid Central Kordofan – 6 months). The Uduk of the Blue Nile Province – 4 months.
b) Carried out field work among Nomadic groups in Central and Southern Sudan as well as settled population in the same areas for periods extending to three years in some cases.
c) The Berta-Watawait of the Sudan-Ethiopian borders, (3 months).
d) Team leader for one season summer 1976 of the Socio-Economic study in the Jonglei Project Area in the Southern Region of the Sudan.
e) Carried a number of researches as a member of teams organized by National and International organizations and participated in feasibility studies and evaluation missions of projects in the Sudan.
f) Since 1976, engaged in consultancy work on the National and Regional levels mainly in the field of rural development. This included project preparation and project evaluation in addition to a review of rural social sciences programmes in East African Universities.
g) Team leader of an evaluation of the socio-cultural conditions of relevance to Norwegian development assistance in East and Southern Africa. (July 1989 – Sept. 1990).
h) Team Leader of an evaluation of the UNDP project “Integration of Resource Management for Desertification Control El Odaya, Sudan, 1997”; and leading the UNDP mission for the assessment of the situation in the Blue Nile State after the CPA , April- June 2005.
i) Member of the UNECO team working for the establishment of a think tank for the Horn of Africa, July, 2005-
j) Under took an evaluation of the African Political Science Association (AAPS) on an assignment from Sida/SAREC, Sweden.
